Authenticity
We work directly with each of our artists and guarantee the authenticity of all artwork submitted.
Most artists sign their work, often on the back or bottom corner. Find out if a work is signed and where it is signed in the Artwork Details section of the product page.
We encourage our artists to send a Certificate of Authenticity, a document signed by the artist certifying the authenticity of the work, along with the artwork. If you would like a Certificate of Authenticity but did not receive one with your order, please email us and we will have the artist send one to you.
Original Art
Original art implies that the artwork in question is unique. While this is true when it comes to one-off or limited edition paintings, drawings, and sculptures, it is not necessarily true when it comes to prints.
Original Prints vs. Reproductions
A reproduction is a print created from a digital copy of an original work of art.
Conversely, an original print is not a copy of an existing work of art. There are many types of prints that are created by hand by an artist and are originals in their own right, including (but not limited to) screens, lithographs, and etchings. The templates used in the hand printing process are destroyed once the edition number has been reached. Unlike digitally produced prints, commonly referred to as giclee prints, hand made prints tend to be more expensive due to their labor-intensive and highly complex process.
It is important to note that some limited edition prints can also be reproductions if they are a copy of an original work of art. Even if the artist has signed, numbered, or painted over a reproduction, it will still not be considered an original.
